Overcoming Toxoplasma In Pregnant Women?
night. My wife was aborted by medical personnel 4 months ago, because she was infected with the Toxoplasma virus and contracted our baby which resulted in our baby having hedrosipalus and no headbone and many other disorders, so by the family on the basis of doctor’s instructions and medical indications we decided to have an abortion , at that time 19 weeks of gestation. now my wife is pregnant again within 3 months of the abortion, the pregnancy is now around 6 weeks. my question is, is it likely that the virus is still in my wife and will be infected in a 6 week old fetus? and if my wife is positive for toxo, can it be treated so that it doesn’t contract the fetus. Thanks.
Hello Nature, Thank you for the question.
Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by the parasite (not virus) Toxoplasma gondii. This parasite mostly infects animals and birds. This parasite can be found in cat feces and infects animal flesh. This parasite can cause infection in the human body by eating vegetables or fruit contaminated with cat feces, putting contaminated hands in the mouth, eating raw or undercooked meat.
After the curettage, has your wife received medication? Usually the doctor will return to perform blood tests to find out if your wife still has an active infection in her body. If so, the doctor will then check whether the fetus in the womb is infected with this parasite. The doctor will give you an antibiotic (Spiramycin) if your fetus has not been infected so that this parasite can be treated and does not infect the fetus. If the fetus is already infected, other antibiotics will be given but they are unable to repair the damage that has occurred.
We recommend that you advise your wife to immediately consult an obstetrician and gynecologist so that the doctor can conduct an examination on your wife and immediately determine the next treatment. Also advise your wife to regularly check her pregnancy health according to the schedule recommended by the doctor.
I hope this helps.
