Hello doctor, r nI am Faisal 38th, BB 98kg, TB 174cm. I have a lot of pain and aches in the back of my thigh, sometimes radiating to the back of the knee and upper calf. This has been happening for about a month. I don’t really remember whether there was any activity that caused the injury before, but I don’t feel like it. Previously this pain only recurred, but about 2 weeks recently the pain and aches have occurred all day long. The pain is especially when I am not active or sleeping, when I am active walking, running, driving a motorbike / car, or other activities the pain is not felt. The pain is actually very annoying at rest, sometimes even when I cough, the coughing pressure causes pain in the thigh. I am confused whether this is gout, muscle, nerves or something? Hopefully the doctor can analyze the complaints that I describe or give recommendations to the doctor on whether I should examine my complaint. thanks.

1 Answer:

Hi Faisal, Thank you for the question.

Pain that feels in the thigh can be caused by:

sciatica, which is pain felt along the sciatic nerve / pelvic nerve. These nerves run from the lower back, buttocks, thighs, and both legs. Sciatica can occur when a nerve is pinched or other disturbance causes irritation of this nerve

meralgia paresthetica, which is pressure on the nerves that supply sensation to the skin of the thighs; can be caused by wearing tight clothing, obesity, injury, or other diseases such as diabetes.
muscle ache

Please consult with a neurologist further. The doctor needs to inquire about this complaint further and examine you. The doctor may also perform further tests such as X-rays or MRI to find out the cause. The doctor will give you the next treatment according to the medical condition you are experiencing.

Also do the following recommendations:

avoid wearing tight clothing, especially tights
rest immediately if the pain gets worse
fix body position when bending
avoid lifting heavy weights
lose weight if you are overweight
take paracetamol if the pain gets worse

I hope this helps.
