Pain In The Wound When Experiencing Shingles?
I want to ask why there can be pain in spots on shingles?
Good evening, thanks for the question
Shingles is a skin and mucosal infection caused by the varicella zoster virus. This infection is a re-activation of the virus that occurs after a primary infection that manifests as chicken pox.
Post herpetic neuralgia is the most common complication of shingles. In this condition the patient still feels pain 6 months after the start of shingles appears, and some even still feel pain after 1 year. The patient complains of pain such as burning or continuous dull pain with or without sharp pain.
Post herpetic neuralgia includes neuropathic pain, which is pain caused by primary damage to the nervous system. The mechanism of this nerve damage can be through the process of peripheral nerve sensitization, central nerve or the process of loss of nerve fibers due to the inflammatory process.
Prevention of post herpetic neuralgia can be done with a combination of antiviral drugs immediately after being diagnosed to suppress viral replication in nerve fibers, and aggressive efforts to reduce acute pain using analgesics. This combination is expected to reduce more severe nerve damage and acute pain.
That's all, hope you can help. Wassalam
