Preventing Seizures During Fever In Children Aged 1 Year Who Have A History Of Febrile Seizures?
Good evening doctor. I want to ask, my child if you have a seizure fever. From the age of 9 months I had experienced a febrile seizure, but at the age of 1 year he had a seizure without a fever and when treated the doctor advised me to drink depaken regularly. After 6 months of drinking I stopped the drug and the doctor advised me to EEG. I have EEG and the results are normal. There’s nothing to be serious about, he just said. After 15 months he never seizures again. But now, if he has a high fever of 40 degrees Celsius, convulsions must have occurred 2 times in a period of 2 months. Currently my child has a fever, I am afraid of seizures again. What I want to ask, may I drink the depaken drug again to minimize the occurrence of seizures during fever? Yes or no doc, please explain, thank you
Hi Lusiyani, thanks for asking.
Febrile seizure is a condition that occurs when the body has an increase in temperature. Febrile seizures are common in children aged 6 months - 6 years, and the risk of events increases with genetic factors (siblings or parents with a history of febrile seizures).
Regarding your question, it is not permissible to restart the use of the drug before consulting a doctor. This is related to the number of doses and the rules of use that must be adapted to your child's current situation (for example, age). Therefore, it is advisable to see a doctor or pediatrician in person in order to get a thorough examination before therapy begins, especially complaints of febrile seizures in your child relapse again.
For now you can give paracetamol when your child has started to have a fever, but it helps reduce it by compressing it also can be done especially on the folds of the body.
That's all from me, hope it helps.
