Assalamualaikum. I have done braces at an orthodontist, but I didn’t get x-rays and no dental impressions were made. Only the teeth were photographed using a cellphone camera. After that, immediately install braces. I’ve asked the doctor, but the nurse said it depends on the specialist. And for the structure of the stirrup that has been installed, I noticed that there is no ring attached to the back teeth. In fact, if you think about it, he is a specialist. Please enlighten.

Hi Fatma,

Bracing is a procedure to correct misaligned teeth or an abnormal jaw arrangement. The normal arrangement of the jaw itself is that when biting, the lower and upper molars must match and the upper front teeth are slightly ahead of the lower teeth.

Bracing itself is done if there are teeth that grow in an abnormal position, the upper jaw is too advanced from the lower jaw or teeth, the lower jaw or teeth are more advanced than the upper teeth. Prior to the installation of braces, the doctor will perform a thorough physical examination first, then it will be determined whether additional examinations are necessary, such as dental X-rays and dental impressions.

There are various types of braces, ranging from removable, permanent braces, headgear, functional braces and others. So the technique is not always the same in every procedure or braces used. If you feel that you are not compatible with the previous doctor, it is advisable to ask for a second opinion from another orthodontist dentist regarding the condition of your teeth.
