Prolonged Use Of Dental Retainer?
, I am a 24-year-old woman, I wear stirrup about 5 years and have been released, then it is recommended to use a retainer, the first 6 months of use is used continuously, but then only during sleep alone, is there a certain period of time to be separated from the retainer, or should the retainer be always used so that it doesn’t relapse again? because the use of my retainer has been very long, 5 years (off stirrup 2014), whether if it has been 5 years of use of the retainer the position of the teeth is stable so it doesn’t need a retainer anymore? thanks.
Hello Tasya, thank you for asking.
The period of use of orthodontic wires is indeed different for each person, depending on the indications for use and the condition of the teeth at the start of installation. After removing the orthodontic wire, the dentist did recommend the use of a retainer. The goal, as you already know, is to avoid relapse of the wrong tooth position.
The duration of use of the retainer depends on the dentist's recommendation. Generally several months to years. You should consult about this to the doctor who treats you. Generally, after 1 year has passed, the dentist will review whether a retainer is still needed or not.
Thus short information from me, hopefully useful. Regards.
