Putting Flies In Tainted Drink As An Antidote. Is It True ?
Yesterday my nephew drank milk and the flies included the milk, instead of being thrown away by his parents, the flies were even dipped deeper and then the flies were thrown away. And the milk is drunk again. He said if the flies dipped deeper it could offer poison. Is that true?
Good morning, thanks for asking at HealthReplies.com. One of the most common flies found in Indonesia is the Musca domestica. So far, flies have been considered as animals that contaminate food and have the potential to cause various types of diseases because of their habit of perching on dirty places and then sticking to food. Food that is contaminated by dirt on the legs of flies can cause various symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and so on.
As for what your relatives did, we suspect it is related to one of the hadiths or teachings in Islam wherein when the drink is infested with flies, you should dip the flies all because there is poison on one wing of the fly but the antidote is in the other wing. Since you can't tell which wings contain poison and antidote, it's best to dip them as well to neutralize them. What needs to be understood from this hadith is that this is a condition when our drinks are infected by flies, so it is not that flies are intentionally included, so to call it a fly vitamin is not quite right.
But back on the medical side, this hadith is still not scientifically studied regarding the evidence and its application, especially in Indonesia, therefore we feel that we do not have the authority to determine whether it is right or wrong. So if it is related to certain religious beliefs, it is fine to do so, but if it causes medical symptoms, immediately take it to a doctor for further treatment. So, hopefully this is useful.
