Return To Seizures After 6 Years Of Epilepsy Does Not Recur?
I haven’t had epilepsy in a long time (about 6 years), yesterday I had another seizure, am I back to one again? The problem is that I had heard that another seizure occurred, meaning that it started from 0 again. please enlighten me. thank you
Thank you for the question.
Seizures in people with epilepsy occur due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. This condition can certainly greatly disrupt the activities and reduce the productivity of the sufferer if not properly controlled. Therefore, people with epilepsy must undergo regular treatment until they are completely free from seizures. That way, in addition to sufferers can return to their activities as usual, the risk of injury, such as due to seizures while driving or while cooking for example, can also be minimized.
Epilepsy treatment can take place in varying duration of time. Generally, your doctor will continue to give you medication with the dosage adjusted until you are completely free of seizures for at least 2 years in a row. Termination of consumption of epilepsy drugs must not be arbitrary. Usually, the doctor will decrease the dose of the epilepsy drug gradually over a period of time.
As for your case, if you have a seizure after 6 years of being completely free of seizures, generally treatment will start all over again. Indeed, undergoing long-term treatment for epilepsy is not easy. But believe me, discipline and patience is high, your seizures can be controlled so well that you can reactivate freely without significant obstacles. Consult further with a doctor or neurologist in this regard.
Hope this helps ...
