Rules For Taking Antibiotics?
Good morning. I want to ask, I got a dose for taking antibiotic cotrimoxazole 2×1 at 13.00. From yesterday afternoon until this morning I forgot to drink it. How should you do it? Does it affect my illness?
Hello Huda Zainal,
Antibiotics are drugs that are used to treat bacterial infections. Cotrimoxazole is a combination antibiotic between trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. These antibiotics are often used in the treatment of urinary tract infections, otitis media, gastroenteritis, and so on.
Antibiotics are given for a certain period of time with different doses per day depending on the type of antibiotic and the disease being treated. Cotrimoxazole is given 1-2 times a day. Cotrimoxazole should be taken with food. Try to take medicine at the same time every day so it is not forgotten. If you miss 1 dose of cotrimoxazole, quickly take the dose if the distance is far enough from the next dose. If it's already far away, continue with the next dose only. Try to spend the rest of the existing medicine. The duration of antibiotics is usually 7 days. If there is no change in symptoms, you should consult your doctor again.
Like other drugs, cotrimoxazole also has side effects including:
Tingling at the tips of your toes
Rashes on the skin
Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
