Safe Anti-pain Medication For Nursing Mothers?
Good evening doctor, is it safe asamevenamat for nursing mothers? And are there any side effects for the baby? Before I thank the doctor
Hello Phia, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Mefenamic acid is recommended to be avoided by breastfeeding mothers. This drug is known to penetrate breast milk when used by women who are breastfeeding, however there are no known side effects that can occur in infants who suckle from mothers who consume mefenamic acid while breastfeeding. If the mother does need therapy with mefenamic acid or accidentally consumes mefenamic acid during breastfeeding, breastfeeding can continue as usual.
It is recommended that you discuss with your doctor who is prescribing the drug about alternative pain medications that can be given which are known to be safer for women who are breastfeeding, such as paracetamol.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
