Hi, every day I consume omega fish oil 3-6-9 (gel form) together with 1000 mg vitamin C capsules. Is it safe if fish oil is swallowed together with vitamin C 1000 mg per day? Thx

1 Answer:

Hi Kristin, thanks for asking.

Consumption of fish oil containing omega 3, 6, and 9 is indeed much in demand by the public because of the good effects it causes. Omega 3 and 6 is a polyunsaturated fatty. Aside from fish, omega 3 can also be found in some other foods such as flaxseed, chia seed, walnut, soybean, and canola oil. The fatty acids contained in omega 3 are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). But it must be known that of the many good effects that are said to be caused by omega 3, we must examine exactly which effects are truly proven and which effects are only myths. From many national and international studies, it has been proven that omega 3 can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Other benefits that are said to be obtained by the consumption of omega-3 but the truth has not been proven through research is prevention of cancer risk, prevention of dementia, and maintaining eye health.

At present there is still no standard guidance regarding the right dosage for fish oil consumption. A medical article source states for young adults to consume 1 gram a day. Side effects that may be caused by too much consumption of fish oil in the form of starters, vomiting, diarrhea, bad breath, and headaches. Some studies mention the risk of stroke in excessive fish oil consumption.

Consumption of vitamin C must also be monitored properly. Daily requirement of vitamin C for adults does not exceed 100 grams per day. Excess vitamin c in the body will be excreted through the kidneys because vitamin c is water soluble. It must also be considered that excess vitamin C can lead to the risk of formation of oxalate stones in the kidneys, as well as the risk of digestive disorders in the form of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and ulcerative pain.

My advice, intersperse the consumption of supplements with the consumption of foods such as vegetables, fruits, or nuts that contain omega-3s and vitamin c. Also make it a habit to drink enough water to dissolve the vitamin C consumed.

Thus the information that I can share. Hope this helps. Regards.
