Safety Of Taking Antibiotics And Supplements While Breastfeeding?
Afternoon, I am a mother with a 4 month old baby and still breastfeeding, I have snake pox, and have been given 400 mg 5 times a day acyclovir drug and 2×1 neurobion a day. Is acyclovir and neurobion safe in the consumption of breastfeeding mothers like me, what are the side effects on the baby I because he only drinks ASI. Please enlighten the doctor, thank you.
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Snake pox or also called shingles is a disease caused by a Varicella zoster virus infection. This virus is the same virus that causes chickenpox. A person can get shingles if reactivation of this virus in the body. People with shingles are advised to take antiviral drugs (acyclovir) as soon as possible (in less than 72 hours after the appearance of the rash) to shorten the period of illness and also reduce the risk of complications of this disease. Acyclovir is a drug that can be used and is given in a dose of 5 x 800 mg for 7 days. This drug is safe to use during breastfeeding and does not cause certain side effects on breastfeeding children. Neurobion itself only contains vitamins and is safe for consumption by nursing mothers.
It is best to follow the therapeutic advice given by your doctor and make sure you are careful when you carry or breastfeed your child. Cover your wound / rash so it does not come in contact with your child to avoid transmission to the child.
