Selection Of UHT Milk Or Formula Milk For Children Aged 2 Years?
Good evening I want to ask. My 2.3 year old son has been released from breast milk 3 months ago. So far, I have given UHT milk from Ultramilk. But after I tried it turned out that the milk is very sweet. Is it okay for children aged 2.3 to drink UHT milk or it is better to only formula milk. thank you
Hello Eca Surya Martalisa,
UHT milk is cow's milk that has been sterilized using the ultra hight temperature method to kill harmful bacteria found in milk. UHT milk can last 6-9 months as long as the packaging has not been opened and is in good condition. However, if the package has been opened it should be finished immediately within 3-4 days. UHT milk contains high concentrations of protein and minerals, making it safer for older children (> 1 year), good digestion and absorption.
Some packaged UHT milk has added flavor and sugar to give a better taste and increase consumer interest. If you are worried that the sugar in your child's UHT milk is too high, you can choose UHT milk that does not provide flavor and added sugar to the product if you want to limit your intake of sugar from milk.
Formula milk (in powder preparations) is milk that has been specially formulated (added certain nutritional content) to adjust the nutritional needs of certain age groups. Some formula milk has a higher fat content, others have higher calcium and protein, there is also formula milk with high sugar content. Usually these nutrients are contained in milk packaging.
At the age of 2-3 years, the daily glucose requirement is 25-40 grams / day which is equivalent to 6-9 teaspoons. The maximum limit of added sugar should be consumed by children aged 2-18 years is equivalent to 12 teaspoons of sugar. In children aged 2 years, of course milk is no longer the main food, but as a supplement. Children must get varied and balanced nutrition from solid foods. However, in special conditions such as malnutrition, special formula milk is used as the main food source to increase children's weight. It is certainly necessary to calculate the daily milk volume measurement carried out by the doctor and adjusted to the child's weight.
After consuming sweet drinks, teach children to rinse. Do not forget to remind children to brush their teeth at least 2 times a day (morning and evening before bed) so that the remaining sugar in the teeth can be cleaned properly and does not trigger cavities. Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
