Hello Wicanaoliv, Thank you for the question.
Immunization is an effective way to prevent several infectious diseases, one of which is diphtheria. Diphtheria is an infection caused by the bacteria Corynebacterium diptheriae which attacks the mucous membranes of the nose and throat. Recently the government implemented the outbreak response immunization (ORI) program as a reaction to the increasing incidence of diphtheria in a number of regions in Indonesia. This program started in December 2017. This immunization is divided into 3 immunization doses, namely in December 2017, one month and six months after the first immunization. The vaccines used depend on the age of the child, namely the DPT-HB-Hib vaccine for children aged 1-5 years, the DT vaccine for children aged 5 years to <7 years, the Td vaccine for children aged 7-19 years.
If your child does not receive the second dose but receives only the first and third doses, then immunity to the disease is not well developed and your child is still at risk for this infection. Please consult with a pediatrician. The doctor may recommend repeated diphtheria immunization.
Hope this information is helpful.
