Thalassophobia is a specific type of phobia that describes an excessive and irrational fear of the ocean. Just like other specific phobias, thalassophobia also usually arises because of past trauma to things that are currently feared, such as a history of drowning in the sea, or a family or close person drowning in the sea, and so on.
