Doc, I want to ask about my situation, right now my throat hurts, but yesterday I accidentally ate fish bones. However, 2 days earlier I was traveling from out of town. And for the situation now, my stomach hurts as well as my back, and my head is slightly dizzy. However, I did not experience symptoms of cough, flu, shortness of breath, and high fever. What should I do for now?

1 Answer:

Hello Fithriyyah Qurrah Shalihati,

Stomach aches can arise due to various diseases, from gastrointestinal infections, disorders of the abdominal muscles, disorders of the urinary tract, reproductive tract and so forth. Abdominal pain in certain abdominal areas can be a clue to doctors narrowing down the possibility of a differential diagnosis of the underlying cause. Abdominal pain is most often complained in the solar plexus (upper navel, lower thoracic bone), but it can also be complained in the lower right abdomen, upper right abdomen, lower left abdomen, lower abdomen approaching the genitals, and also the area around the navel.

Abdominal pain can also arise and can also spread to other parts of the body. Pain that is felt by the patient can be blunt, sharp (like being stabbed), like burning, and so on. These instructions are needed by the doctor to determine what diseases the patient might be suffering from.

Symptoms and complaints related to abdominal pain that are usually asked to patients include:

How long? Does the stomach ache constant (there are continuous) or disappear?
Pain related to eating? Do not eat and then stomach ache or immediately appear when eating certain foods?
Complaints related to the digestive tract: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
Other accompanying complaints: fever, urinating pain, difficult urination, menstrual disorders, flatulence
There are certain body positions that relieve abdominal pain experienced?

Right now in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak we need to be more observant in distinguishing which conditions require immediate examination and treatment and which conditions can still be postponed - independent treatment.

Abdominal pain with the following symptoms requires immediate examination with a doctor:

Increased right lower abdominal pain
Abdominal pain that is severe if touched the stomach feels very painful
Increase the size of the abdominal girth quickly
Vomiting continuously
Can not defecate (including exhaust) at all
Abdominal pain accompanied by high fever> 3 days
Stomach pain accompanied by bloody diarrhea

At home, you can temporarily take OTC drugs that are safe for pain, such as paracetamol. If you have a history of stomach pain with medications that are routinely taken, please continue. Pay attention to the type of food you consume, try to avoid foods that are too acidic, spicy, greasy for a while. Also limit caffeine consumption. Bathing in warm water or giving a warm compress in the stomach area can help reduce abdominal pain.

* In the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak, comply with prevention measures that need to be taken when traveling out of the house, including when to go to a health facility. Read reliable info about Covid-19 from trusted sites such as those from WHO, CDC, Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia.

Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
