Suicidal Ideation When Feeling Stressed And Guilty?
Hello doctor, I’m a 21-year-old angel student. Every time I am exposed to problems, I feel very stressed, guilty, always thinking I want to die sometimes until I think of suicide. But indeed I hurt myself several times. Every time there is a problem my mood can be unstable for weeks, until I don’t want to do anything, don’t want to do activities until stress drags on. But I feel things to this extent in my opinion only a few times, but to feel suicidal as a child already. Now, again. Am I having a mental problem?
Hello Angel Sumakul,
Mental disorders are disorders of emotions, behavior, and mindset of sufferers. The disorder can affect the patient's daily activities and functions in social interaction with others. There are many types of mental disorders that can be suffered by someone. Triggering factors for mental disorders can be trauma or psychological stress, the use of certain drugs, organic diseases.
Depression is one of the mental disorders in the form of mood disorders characterized by the main symptoms as follows:
Losing interest in activities and feeling happy
The reduced energy that has an effect is easily tired
Other symptoms experienced by depressed patients are decreased attention / concentration, low self-confidence, guilt and worthlessness, bleak future outlook, ideas for committing suicide or self-injury, sleep disturbance, decreased appetite. Patients can also feel somatic symptoms, such as aches throughout the body, difficulty sleeping, baldness, weight loss, nausea, or even vertigo and fever.
The diagnosis of depressive disorder is made when the patient experiences at least 2 of the 3 main symptoms plus at least 2 of the other symptoms for a minimum of 2 weeks duration. These symptoms cause a disruption in the patient's function in doing his work and social interaction.
Patients who experience these symptoms should consult further with a psychiatrist. Your doctor needs to explore further the triggers for your symptoms so that you can determine the right therapy. Management of depression is through comprehensive therapy by administering antidepressant drugs and also cognitive behavioral therapy. Patients also need to get moral support and good motivation to be able to overcome the problem of depression. Patients should get attention and care when they are in the stage of frequent suicidal ideas to prevent dangerous things from happening. Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
