Hello, I was checking for pregnancy at the midwife. I was given vitonal-M and medicated maagh alone. Does vitonal-M contain folic acid and DHA? Because my midwife said it was complete. But I’m browsing only contains vitamin B6 and ginger extract only. If folic acid and DHA are not available, should I buy other supplements at the pharmacy? Explanation please. thank you

Hi Tarisioresmi,

Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.

There are a variety of nutrients needed during the 1st trimester of pregnancy, not only folic acid and DHA. Several other nutrients, such as protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, calcium, iron, folic acid, and DHA are also important in their function to support mother's stamina and fetal development in the womb. In fact, these nutrients are not only fulfilled from supplements alone. It is believed that the consumption of a healthy, varied, and well-balanced diet can support pregnancy much better than just focusing on supplements. But indeed, in women who are hesitant to meet their nutritional needs through daily food and drink alone, consumption of supplements can be important.

Vitonal-M only contains ginger extract and vitamin B6. This supplement can be used as an alternative solution for pregnant women who experience nausea and vomiting. Giving this drug can be done in conjunction with several other types of supplements. However, in mothers who still experience a lot of nausea and vomiting, sometimes this vitamin is sufficient to be given together with stomach acid neutralizing drugs in order to optimize the work of the drug.

Need to clarify first, are there any complaints that you feel during this pregnancy? Are you experiencing severe nausea and vomiting?

If you do experience severe nausea and vomiting, then you should first take these 2 drugs. Furthermore, if within 3 to 5 days of your nausea and vomiting subsides, you can go back to your doctor or gynecologist. Thus, doctors can provide additional or alternative drugs to meet your nutritional needs during pregnancy. However, if you do not experience significant complaints at this time, then early examination to the doctor is recommended for the good of you and the fetus in your womb. Avoid taking any supplements in the long term while pregnant without a doctor's supervision and prescription.

Hope it helps ..
