Surgical Scars Produce A Bad Odor?
Good evening doctor. R n My name is Nita I am 26 years old, I am pregnant UK 18w. R n12 November I underwent an abscess cleansing operation in my right breast, after this surgery my surgical wound gave off a bad odor, does that mean the infection is still an infection is there or what?
Hello Nita, thank you for your question to HealthReplies.com
Previously I want to confirm in advance, after the surgery to clean the abscess you are asked to return control to the surgeon who treats you or there are certain wound care instructions that you must do at home?
An abscess is the formation of a pus-filled sac under the skin. Abscesses can occur due to infection. If your breast abscess is large enough, usually after an abscess cleaning operation, the doctor will place a material that can absorb pus and fluid that may still be produced (a kind of gauze that can absorb fluid). The doctor will instruct you to control once every 2-3 days for treatment of the wound until the wound is completely dry.
You must do this control to replace gauze or surgical wound cover that is wet with pus, blood, or fluid. If all this time you have never been in control, or if you have been in control, but odorless liquid comes out of your scar, then you should immediately contact the surgeon who is treating you for further evaluation and management. You should take your medication according to your doctor's instructions and perform wound care and control according to your doctor's instructions.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
