Swollen gums is a condition where inflammation of the gums occurs, this inflammation can be caused by bacterial infections, smoking habits, vitamin C deficiency, pregnancy, improper placement of false teeth, gum sensitivity to toothpaste or mouthwash, due to the influence of drugs medicine, and so on. Gingivitis can occur due to the process of cleaning food in teeth that are less clean and cause germs to multiply which can cause inflammation of the teeth and gums. If inflammation occurs in the gums, it can cause complaints of swelling, pain, redness, head and neck pain, fever, and so forth. This is because the toxin from the bacteria will cause an immune response in the form of the release of inflammatory mediators which will cause an increase in body temperature, joint and muscle aches, and so forth. Increased body temperature is intended to kill bacteria found in the body. If complaints are felt to be disturbing you should consult a dentist, the doctor will conduct question and answer, physical examination, and maybe also some additional examinations if needed such as x-rays, laboratories, and so forth. Handling will be adjusted to the cause of the complaint, if the swollen gums are caused by a bacterial infection, usually the doctor will prescribe antibiotics, pain relievers, drugs to treat inflammation, and so forth. Some things you can do before seeing a doctor include:

Taking pain relievers that are sold freely at the pharmacy if it feels very painful
Cold compress with ice cubes wrapped in a cloth on the gum area and swollen cheeks.
