I’m just over a month away from giving birth to my first child. Normal childbirth. Yesterday, I just realized that my neck swelled like a goiter.rnDuring my pregnancy I didn’t have my thyroid checked. Because during pregnancy I feel fine.rnDoes this swelling in the neck have anything to do with giving birth to a doctor? Is it dangerous if I breastfeed my baby? Please answer. Thank you

1 Answer:

Hello Fitantri Tantri,

Swelling in the neck can indeed be caused by a disorder of the thyroid gland, but there are several other possibilities for swelling in the neck, including:

Parotitis (mumps) Lymphadenopathy Lymphadenitis Lymphoma

In the process of giving birth, it is not related to the appearance of swelling in the neck and you can still give breast milk to your little one. We recommend that you do an examination with a doctor to determine the cause of the swelling in the neck that you are experiencing so that treatment can be carried out based on the results of the diagnosis from a physical examination and also supporting examinations such as blood tests or a biopsy if necessary.

Meanwhile, eat nutritious foods to increase endurance and the nutritional content of breast milk is good. Get enough rest and also avoid excessive stress. Stay away from exposure to cigarette smoke or consuming alcoholic beverages and continue to exclusively breastfeed your baby until they reach the age of 6 months.

I hope this information is helpful.
