Symptoms Of Symptoms Of Preeclampsia?

I want to ask. I am currently pregnant at the age of 17w and is the second pregnancy. Starting into the second trimester I often feel shortness of breath or short and heavy breathing. Headaches at the top are unbearable. And sometimes the legs and hands feel weak. Are these symptoms of preeclampsia? I have no history of high blood pressure and no symptoms like this in the first pregnancy. Thank you

Hello. Thank you for the question submitted to We can understand the concern you feel.

Shortness is a complaint that is experienced by many pregnant women. During pregnancy, the size of the fetus that continues to increase makes the diaphragm (limiting the chest cavity and abdominal cavity) rises about 4 cm, causing decreased functional residual capacity and lung residual volume. In addition, every pregnant woman will experience an increase in physiological blood volume, causing the heart to work harder to pump blood. This can also trigger the sensation of tightness in pregnant women. These shortness complaints generally arise at 20 weeks or more gestational age.

Meanwhile, preeclampsia is defined as an increase in blood pressure (more than or equal to 140/90 mmHg) that appears after 20 weeks' gestation and is accompanied by protein release in the urine. So, considering that you are not yet 20 weeks pregnant and there is no increase in blood pressure, it is likely that your condition is not preeclampsia.

As a suggestion to overcome tightness, you can do the following simple steps:

Use a belt / abdominal support for pregnant women, which serves to support the abdominal muscles and lower back and maintain posture to help reduce tightness
Sleeping on your left side, which serves to expedite maternal blood flow to the placenta and fetus
Regulate breathing, by breathing slowly, then exhale slowly. Do this exercise with regular rhythm for about 5 minutes

Do not hesitate to consult a doctor or obstetrician and obstetrician immediately if there are signs / symptoms of danger in the form of the sound of breath-snaking, swelling in the legs, palpitations, extreme fatigue, decreased blood pressure, and chest pain. This condition may indicate a serious disturbance in the lungs and / or heart.
