The Cause Of A Large And Hard Stomach In The Elderly?
Morning, I want to ask. my father some time this year his stomach is enlarged and hard like a pregnant woman. but not comparable to his body that is not too fat. my father often experienced difficulty in breathing, so when breathing the abdomen also experienced quite fast movements and occasionally I saw him sleeping in an open mouth and tongue almost sticking up. What handling should I do? because my father is very difficult to be invited to see a doctor. please advise 🙁 I’m very worried, because my father is a grab driver who is accustomed to the wind on the streets. thank you 🙂
Hello Rere, thanks for asking.
In the stomach there are many important organs. Any disorder that affects one or more of these organs, can cause enlargement of the stomach. Enlargement of the stomach that is not accompanied by a fat body, can be caused by metabolic syndrome which causes central obesity (fat only in the stomach area), enlargement of organs, and the presence of free fluid in the abdominal wall.
Metabolic syndrome is a disease that occurs chronic and is characterized by high cholesterol levels, high blood sugar levels, hypertension, and waist circumference that is above the normal value.
Organ enlargement may be in the form of:
Chronic liver infection (hepatitis).
Liver tumor (hepatoma).
Splenomegaly (spleen enlargement), for example caused by blood disorders, tumors, or diseases such as malaria.
Inflammation or tumor in the pancreas.
Tumor of the intestine.
Tumors of the kidneys or other urinary tract.
Increased volume of fluid in the abdominal wall is also called ascites. Generally a person will feel heavy on his stomach and feels like there is fluid in it. Ascites can be caused by inflammation or tumors in various organs in the stomach, or due to impaired kidney function, and impaired liver function.
Shortness of breath your father is likely due to a lung pushed by an enlarged abdomen. This may indicate an advanced disease. Basically there is no treatment that can be done at home to cure an enlarged abdomen. Enlargement caused by a buildup of fluid or tumors, is not a minor problem, so it must be handled properly. The best way is to bring your father to see a doctor. Use BPJS to ease medical expenses. The doctor will conduct a series of tests to find out what organs are the problem. The doctor may need to do an ultrasound or X-ray of the abdomen, and analyze blood samples in the laboratory. Convince your father to at least find out the problem first. After that, further action will be adjusted to the diagnosis given from the doctor. You and your family can discuss with your doctor to discuss possible actions.
That is my explanation. May be useful. Regards.
