during the day I have a 2 year old child, every time he wants to sleep he has to suck the baby’s blanket. I am worried that usually it can grow big. I have tried changing the blanket and I have 4 blankets that I mutually change but now my child is dependent on all the blankets, just every time he wants to sleep he has to ask for one of them

Hello Iera

Thank you for using the HealthReplies.com consulting service.

We understand the complaints and concerns you feel

1-3 years of age is a critical age for children. At that age, children tend to be active with their environment and can sort out what they like and what they don't like. A child who has a favorite object or dependence on an object indicates that he feels comfortable and calm when he is with this object. This can happen as a result of a habit that makes him feel better. Naturally, parents feel worried if the habit is not a habit that they think is good and are afraid that it will be carried over to adulthood. In general, toddlers tend to decline their habits as they get older. Of course this cannot happen spontaneously. The role of patience, affection and attention from parents is very important to reduce habits that are considered bad in children. Likewise, when we are weaning a child from breast milk or a bottle of milk, of course this is not easy to do. But over time the habit will disappear.

Here are steps that might help you to reduce the habits your child does:

Give understanding to children that blankets have a lot of germs, so invite the child with love to reduce the habit Give attention, love and comfort by giving a hug or a kiss to the child when they are about to sleep .. Invite the child to do other activities, of course more interesting, like telling a fairy tale or a book. Make the child's favorite object into an object in the story that you can make as a bedtime. Don't ban the child outright, as this will make the child even more stressed. Appreciate every child's effort when trying to reduce these habits. Of course doing some of the things above is not easy, but as parents must remain patient and try. Recognizing the child's character and desires, and giving love and attention to children are the keys to reducing dependency and forming new, better habits. If it is quite difficult, do not hesitate to check and consult with your psychologist or your nearest pediatrician. That is the information that I can convey, hope it helps
