I want to ask, can certain drugs trigger keloids? i don’t have keloid talent from my family but why only i have keloid talent? When I was in junior high school, I had an operation where the stitch marks did not turn into keloids and I also had an accident, the scars did not become keloids, but when I entered high school, small scars such as pimples, boils, and injection wounds became keloids, huh? Actually, apart from genetic factors, are there other factors that cause keloids? Please explain, doctor. Thank you

1 Answer:

Hello Silvester.

Thank you for the question.

Keloids are abnormalities in the wound healing process which give a different color than the surrounding skin color. Until now, the exact treatment of keloids is still not completely treated because the mechanism of keloid formation is not known. Keloids can occur in both men and women.

Apart from genetic factors that play a role in the occurrence of keloids there are several other factors:

age. Most suffered by ages 10-30 years.
Race. Asian race and dark skin are more often found suffering from keloids than white races like Europeans and albinos.

Keloid is a benign tumor, but if the growth grows rapidly it should be suspected as a cancer. A biopsy examination is needed to determine whether the cells are turning malignant or not.

Several ways to get rid of keloids: (can be read on how to overcome them)

operation
corticosteroid injections
cryotherapy
laser
radiation

Of all the things mentioned above, the most important thing in avoiding keloids is by not performing unnecessary surgical procedures, piercings, and even acne should be treated before inflammation occurs.

Some skin sores that will cause keloids:

Burns
surgical scars
piercing wound

The selection of the right therapy must be based on consultation with a dermatologist.

That's my explanation, hopefully it's useful.
