Hello, I’m fifi at the age of 20. My complaint so far has been ringing in my ears, and often vertigo that likes to suddenly recur and this I have felt for years. I was referred to the ENT for ear checks but the results were that my ears were fine. Not long ago my body dropped really because of shortness of breath continuously and had to be rushed to the emergency room, there was a blood check, x-rays, even I had to be hospitalized for several days. When treated even a heart check and ultrasound. It turned out that the results of my lungs and heart were normal and my tightness did not come from there. The initial diagnosis of the doctor who treated me, was GERD. But when the ultrasound came out, nothing was found in my stomach. Then how many days after I was discharged from the hospital I decided to go to the ENT doctor, to check why my ears were ringing for years and not healed. It turned out that after checking, my ear doctor said a cold alias a lot of mucus collected in it and my tonsils were already classified as T4. The ENT doctor advised me to have tonsillectomy. Because all this time I felt tightness like on the chest near the esophagus and even when I drank water my breath felt tight and breath like the end of the esophagus. I have also been very difficult to swallow several times even swallowed and felt a lot of mucus in the walls of my throat. Do you think that my shortness of breath comes from tonsils? And is it safe to do a surgical operation when I’m constantly overcrowded. Please answer🙏 thank you very much in advance.

Hello. Thank you for the question submitted to HealthReplies.com. We can understand the concern you feel.

Based on your history, your doctor has diagnosed gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a disease characterized by an increase in the contents of the stomach into the esophagus, pharynx, and / or lungs. Symptoms that arise are usually in the form of a burning sensation in the pit of the stomach that rises to the back of the breastbone, a bitter or sour taste in the mouth, a lot of belching, and a rapid stomach bloating. The symptoms generally feel heavy after eating or lying down. Patients with GERD can also experience shortness caused by factors that can increase stomach acid, for example: consumption of coffee, tea, chocolate, spicy foods, gassed foods / drinks, late eating, and stress.

One of the red flags of GERD is difficulty in swallowing. Other signs of danger include: nausea and vomiting repeatedly, persistent swallowing pain, weight loss without apparent cause, and anemia. You are advised to immediately check yourself with a specialist in internal medicine for examination of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and necessary handling. Endoscopy is useful for checking whether GERD complications have occurred in the form of damage to the esophagus to the area around the oral cavity. Inflammation of the tonsils (tonsils) may occur together in patients with GERD. An assessment of the need for surgery requires a direct examination by a doctor. Regarding the eligibility to undergo surgery, of course, each patient will be assessed by a specialist from the field related to the procedure of action and anesthesiology specialist so that the assessment is individual in each case. Do not hesitate to consult with the doctor who treats you.

As a suggestion, you are advised to avoid consuming foods / drinks that trigger gastric acid secretion, for example: coffee, tea, chocolate, spicy foods, and soft drinks. You should also elevate the position of the head while sleeping and eat no later than 2 hours before bedtime.
