Hi Password,

Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.

TB infection (Tuberculosis) can attack various organ systems, the most common is the lungs. Depending on the location of the infection and also the severity, this TB infection can show various symptoms. For that, it is more appropriate if you clarify first, what TB did your wife experience? What symptoms has he experienced so far? So, has he ever received treatment?

Treatment of pulmonary TB depends strongly on regularity of the treatment process. Generally, in new TB cases, doctors will give anti-TB drugs (OAT) in the form of a combination of antibiotics and vitamins that are given for at least 6 months. This treatment will be preceded by an intensive stage for 2 months. Furthermore, the patient will be advised to undergo a repeat examination to assess the responsiveness of the treatment, before finally proceeding to the insertion or advanced stage. Then, another examination will be carried out to assess whether the patient can be declared cured or need to extend the treatment period again.

In some conditions, doctors may also advise TB sufferers to undergo antibiotic resistance culture tests. This examination is intended to assess the sensitivity of TB germs that infect patients to the antibiotics given. Because, currently there are more and more cases of drug resistant TB (resistant to drugs given) which causes the healing process to be hampered. As a result, the potential for transmission will be even greater.

Judging from the information you conveyed, it is possible that the TB germs that infected your wife did not experience resistance to the antibiotics used, in this case Rifampicin. However, regarding other examination results, you need to confirm it directly with the doctor who treats your wife in person. The results of laboratory tests can only be interpreted by comparing directly to the results of other examinations that have been performed on the patient, including history and physical examination. The results of this antibiotic resistance culture examination will later be used as provisions for doctors in determining the right therapy for sufferers.

Hope this helps ..
