The Flat Head Of A 4 Month Old Baby?
noon. I want to ask. I have a baby child aged over 4 months, my baby mostly sleeps on his back so his head is a bit flat but the head circumference is still normal. How can he be like an ordinary head again not flat like a gt.? explanation please .
Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
The shape of the baby's head, as long as the fontanel of the skull has not closed, generally it can still change. In most cases, the crown of the baby will close by the time the baby is 19 to 30 months old. At this age, most baby heads will remain and last into adulthood.
The flat shape of the baby's head, also known as plagiocephaly (peyang), does not always reflect a disorder. This condition can naturally occur due to the habit of keeping the baby in only one position for a long time, for example lying down too much or feeding on one side of the breast only. But indeed, the flat shape of the baby's head can also occur due to an abnormality, for example:
Conditions during pregnancy, such as due to oligohydramnios, pregnancy twins
Torticollis (neck muscle dystonia)
Craniosynostosis (crown closes too quickly)
Intracranial tumors, and so on
Although it is often harmless, the flat shape of the baby's head can cause appearance problems, so this condition needs to be treated as early as possible. You can do the following to solve it:
Avoid too long letting the baby lie on a base that is too hard
Mutually change the baby's sleeping position
Mutually change the position of breastfeeding the baby, minimizing breastfeeding while lying down
Avoid massaging the baby's head excessively
However, if the complaint persists and makes you worry, you can take your baby to a doctor or pediatrician for further treatment.
I hope this helps.
