The Left Ear Feels Closed After 1 Hour Off The Plane?
Hello .. I want to ask, why does my left ear keep feeling closed even though it’s been more than an hour off the plane? I tried the trick to close the nose and then exhale, but the air comes out of the right ear, how do I do that?
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Basically the ear symptoms such as closed and feels full after you get off the plane can occur because of interference with your eustachian tube. The eustachian tube is the channel that connects the middle ear to the back of the throat. The function of this tube is to balance the pressure inside the middle ear with the pressure in the atmosphere. The middle ear is a closed space (there are no holes that connect it to the outside world except this Eustachian tube). The purpose of the Valsalva maneuver (closing the nose and mouth and exhaling forcefully) is to open the Eustachian tube to rebalance the pressure in the middle ear with atmospheric pressure (remember that atmospheric pressure varies according to height, for example when you are on a plane that is being fly, or when you dive).
In general, symptoms of the ear feel full and closed as you experience now can occur up to several hours to several days after you get off the plane. This condition is not dangerous even though it is quite disturbing, it will not occur for months or years and will not cause certain dangerous complications. There is no specific therapy that can be done, you will only be advised to wait until the symptoms improve themselves. If you have a cold or cough now, your ear condition will also usually get better after your cold and cough heal.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
