The Left Eyelid Is Swollen, Red, Aching, And Eye Discharge Is Like Phlegm?
Good morning doc. You ask, since 3 days ago my left eyelid was swollen, red, rather painful when used blinking, until the color of the conjunctiva is redder than the right eye. Previously there was a bump right above the eyelashes. Small lumps, not hard. The last 3 days came out of eye discharge like mucus and pretty much just when I wake up. And this morning the swelling has decreased a little. Why is that? And what medicine can you recommend?
Swelling of the eyelids accompanied by redness of the conjunctiva (the whites of the eye) without visual impairment is most likely caused by inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis). This condition is generally harmless, self treatment can be tried and gradually improves within a few days.
Here are some suggestions that you can take to help reduce these complaints:
Don't rub the eyes that are complained of
Keep your face and hands clean in general
Use over-the-counter eye drops to help reduce complaints
Clean the eyes with warm water and a soft towel
However, these complaints can occur together with other conditions such as nodules (hordeolum) and should still be checked by a doctor if the complaint persists after receiving treatment or impaired vision. If needed, the doctor can give antibiotic eye drops such as cloframphenicol drops to help reduce complaints.
