The Mood Feels Good When Hurting Yourself?
I feel my mood is better when I hurt myself, sometimes I laugh when I feel pain Is this a psychological disorder or a nervous breakdown?
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Self-harm is a very common symptom, especially in adolescents. Self-harm is not necessarily a sign of a mental disorder but is a sign that the person does not have a good coping mechanism when coping with severe emotional stress. Someone is said to have a mental disorder if the symptoms experienced by that person can not function properly (meaning that they cannot study or work properly, cannot socialize well, and cannot take care of themselves properly). Symptoms of self-harm are often found in adolescents who feel unhappy in their lives (for example, having many problems in the family, being sued too high or demanding themselves too high) or having experienced severe trauma in childhood (for example having experienced physical violence, sexual assault or verbal abuse).
If indeed the symptoms that you are experiencing have not yet caused a malfunction in your daily life, you can consult your condition to a psychologist. If you are still in school, you can look for a school psychologist (or usually called a BP teacher / counseling teacher). If you experience dysfunction in your daily life, you should consult directly with a psychiatrist so that further evaluation and management can be done.
It is better to avoid using illegal drugs, avoid alcohol consumption, avoid smoking, and avoid hurting yourself as much as possible. Doing these things will not make your life better can actually make health problems and even further mental disorders. Try channeling your energy by increasing positive activities such as exercising, making art, or studying harder. You can also do activities that make you more relaxed, like doing meditation, yoga, or breathing exercises regularly.
