Hello, I have a question. Lately, my breasts often feel full and painful and feel like a lump but it only occurs on the right side of the breast, even though I routinely pump and immediately breastfeed the baby. Then 3x her nipples felt painful in the same section, there were white spots and a little swelling. What should I do about it? Can I still breastfeed a baby with a nipple like that? Thanks.

Hello Asri, thank you for the question for HealthReplies.com

The condition you are experiencing is most likely caused by a blockage in the milk outlet in your right breast. Blockage in the milk outlet can cause pain in the breast, especially when the baby is breastfeeding or when the milk is reflex, accompanied by hardened breasts and a lump in the breast can be felt. This condition must be addressed immediately because if allowed to develop into breast infections (mastitis) and reduce milk production.

The following are some things you can do to overcome blockage of the milk outlet:

Compress the breast with a warm compress or soak the breast in warm water, especially before breastfeeding
Perform breast massage, especially in the hard and bulging
Feed your baby with your position on top of the baby (the baby is lying down and you are on top of the baby with the breast hanging down). This position can help milk out more profusely and get rid of any congestion.
Always breastfeed your baby starting from the blocked breast first.
If the baby does not want to suckle from that breast and the breasts still do not feel empty after feeding, pump your breast while continuing to compress the breast with a warm compress.

To prevent blockage of the milk outlet, you should always empty your breasts while breastfeeding. If the breasts are not empty when you are finished breastfeeding you should pump your breasts until they are completely empty. If this condition recurs, then continue, start breastfeeding from the breast that is often blocked.

So much information from me, hopefully it will be enough to answer
