Assalamualaikum, I am 21 years old. I want to know, I have a complaint of pain in the area between the shoulder and upper arm. I’ve been feeling it for a long time. I really feel the pain is erratic, sometimes once every few days, sometimes every few weeks. but the pain has been there since I was sitting on the bench in 9th grade until now I still feel the pain. I once asked my mother to massage after feeling the pain, but there was no pain whatsoever. Why is that and is it dangerous?

Hi sibad,

Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.

Pain that starts from the shoulder to the upper arm may have many causes. It needs to be clarified beforehand, have you ever experienced an injury to the painful area? Does the pain feel so great that it interferes with your movement and activities? So, does the pain appear accompanied by swelling, numbness, or other complaints?

The following conditions can trigger pain in the shoulder to the upper arm:

Dislocation (shift) of the shoulder joint Rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis due to rheumatism) Deficiency of vitamins B1, B6, B12 Myalgia (muscle pain) Pinched nerves Bacterial or viral infection, can be in the skin around the shoulder and arm, or it can also be an infection in other organ systems Scoliosis (abnormal sideways curvature of the spine) Psychosomatic disorders, etc. If the pain is mild and subsides on its own, chances are your condition is not dangerous. You can first compress the sore shoulder and arm area using warm water so that the pain subsides. Limit activities that are too heavy using aching arms, such as lifting heavy objects, and so on. Exercise regularly, and sleep on comfortable mats. If necessary, you can first take pain relievers, such as paracetemol. We recommend that you do not massage or apply excessive pressure to the sore shoulder and arm to avoid further tissue injury.

However, if there is no significant improvement after carrying out the above efforts, or other complaints appear as mentioned above, you should immediately see a doctor for further evaluation, through a physical examination, or additional tests, namely x-rays, CT scans. , etc.

I hope this helps.
