Hello, good morning April.
Shingles (herpes zoster) is a disease caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus that resides in the body. This disease is characterized by a red rash that will then become elastic or a blister on one side of the body that feels painful and itchy. Shingles in general is not a serious or fatal disease, and will generally heal on its own in 14-28 days.
There are no specific steps for dealing with shingles. The main goal of treatment is to reduce symptoms until the disease heals on its own, namely by administering antiviral drugs, administering antiviral ointments, administering oral medications to relieve pain and reduce itching. In the condition you are experiencing, where the resilience has broken, we recommend compressing it with a NaCl solution or an antiseptic solution and then administering an antiviral ointment. Compress is done to clean the wound so as to prevent secondary infection by bacteria. We do not recommend using powder because it is feared that the powder will stick to wet wounds. Meanwhile, to relieve itching can be done by administering oral antihistamine drugs. These drugs are prescription drugs, so you should check with your doctor first.
I hope this helps.
Greetings, dr. Denisa
