Hello Nardi,

Tendons are the tissues that connect muscles to bones. Tendons are formed mostly from collagen. Tendons play an important role in every body movement. The hand is a part of the body that has a lot of gross and fine motor skills, therefore the number of tendons in the hand is also large. Tendons can break or tear as a result of direct trauma (cut, cut) or from too much activity. Symptoms experienced when a tendon is torn include:

Inability to move the affected arm / leg
Sounds like broken rubber
Swollen
Severe pain

Surgery to repair a torn / broken tendon aims to connect the two ends of the tendon, which will heal with the formation of scar tissue. Sutures on the skin (which you can see) do heal faster, usually within a week they are dry, but damage to tissues such as tendons takes longer to heal. It usually takes a minimum of 3-4 weeks for postoperative swelling to decrease. Healing of the tendon usually takes 6-8 weeks, it could be more, if there are many torn tendons, total tears and slow handling so that the tendon has quickly shortened, or the affected part is the tendon of the body that moves frequently. Tendons that have been torn / broken, which then grow scar tissue there, of course, will decrease in function because the scar tissue is not as elastic as the previous tendon tissue. Usually the sufferer will find it difficult to move the affected part, feel stiff, or even be unable to move the part at all.

Treatment after tendon tears requires patience. Some things to watch out for are:

Wear a splint / armsling / assist device if it is given according to the instructions of the doctor who performed the operation.
As much as possible rest the body part that was just operated on.
There comes a control for evaluation of the wound and function of motion of the operated part
Consume foods high in protein, calcium and vitamin C which are good for strengthening tendons.
The hand is positioned higher than the heart to reduce swelling.
Join a medical rehabilitation program if instructed by the doctor
Usually doctors prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs (anti-inflammatory) to reduce swelling and pain.

We recommend that you check back with the doctor who performed the operation so that the doctor can conduct an evaluation. If necessary, an MRI-like examination will be carried out to see the condition of the tissue after surgery.

That's the explanation from me, hopefully it's useful.
