The Use Of Swaddling Cloths For Babies Aged 1 Week?
my child is only 1 week old..What should I use it for? Does the age tell you to be swaddled so that the child’s feet are not bent … But to my knowledge the function is just to warm the child.
Hello Irvan Achmad Fauzy,
Very true, that the function of swaddling cloth is to keep the baby's body temperature warm. Babies have a relatively large surface area so it is easier to experience heat dissipation and more prone to hypothermia in cold environments. Therefore given swaddling cloth and blanket to avoid the hypothermia.
Swaddling in newborns is also useful for creating a similar atmosphere in the mother's womb so that the baby can sleep more comfortably. Temporary swaddling is also useful for preventing baby's hands from scratching or injuring the face in certain conditions. Swaddling is usually only done on infants aged <3 months. When the home environment is hot, swaddling is not necessary because it will make the baby feel too hot and can trigger prickly heat.
Swaddling a baby too closely is associated with an increased risk of pelvic dysplasia, cartilage damage, and even dislocation. Swaddling with a cloth that is too thick and too tight can cause tightness in the baby. The incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is increased in the baby being swaddled then lying face down or sideways, the swaddling which is open then can also close the baby's face and respiratory tract.
Some points to consider when membedong baby are:
Avoid fabrics that are too thick. Use cotton or velcro fabrics of the right size
Do not cover the head with swaddling
Do not swaddling a baby too tight that it cannot move at all
If the baby looks sweaty or overheated, remove swaddling
Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
