The Wound Is Swollen And Red And Is Still Painful?
I had a wound on the big toe where the skin was torn and peeling off, after the wound dried up u0026amp; closing it was very painful when the scar was touched, day by day the scar began to swell u0026amp; flushed. I’m afraid it’s a symptom of a wound infection
Hello Zainal, thank you for the question for HealthReplies.com
Swollen and red sores are indeed signs of infection in the wound. Conditions like those you experience (the wound has closed but the inside is swollen and painful) is generally caused by a foreign object in the wound (dirt, gravel, or other small particles) that was not cleaned properly during wound care. This condition can also occur in people who have comorbidities such as diabetes where there is impaired wound healing.
You should check with a dermatologist for further evaluation of your wound. If there is an infection under your skin (such as an abscess, cellulitis, or erysipelas), your doctor will recommend giving antibiotics to treat the infection. If it is caused by an abscess, then an incision and drainage procedure can also be performed (the top of the skin is cut slightly and the pus inside is removed) so that the wound can heal properly.
You should not delay the examination because the infection on the inside of the skin is difficult to heal on its own. Infection can also affect deeper tissues to the bone. If you do have comorbid conditions such as diabetes, you should also take medication to control your blood sugar.
For now try to keep your wound clean. Make sure you use comfortable shoes and do not press or rub against the swollen area. If your feet are wet for example by sweat, make sure you change your socks or change the shoes you use so that fungus doesn't appear on your feet.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
