Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
Tingling and weakness that appears suddenly and persists in an elderly person may indicate a TIA (transient ischemic attack). This condition occurs when the blood vessels that supply nutrients and oxygen to the brain experience temporary blockage. This condition generally does not cause permanent brain damage.
In addition to sensation disturbances (characterized by tingling, tingling, or numbness) and motor (characterized by weakness, paralysis) in the locomotion, TIA symptoms can also be observed from speech disorders (rero), blurry or double vision, dizziness, loss of balance and coordination, sudden and severe headache without an obvious trigger, and so on. The triggers of blockage in the blood vessels in the brain in TIA sufferers can be classified into 2, namely:
Precipitating factors that cannot be modified, such as genetics (heredity), age (over 55 years), gender (partner has more frequent TIA), and a history of previous TIA
Modifiable trigger factors, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, kerotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, diabetes, obesity, and unhealthy lifestyles
It could also be, the hands that feel weak and tingling that your parents experience occurs due to other causes, for example a stroke (TIA that lasts more than 24 hours), pinched spinal cord, meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord), vitamin deficiency or certain minerals, and so on.
You should ask your parents to have their condition checked by a doctor or neurologist. The doctor will do a thorough neurological examination to assess the possible causes of sensory and motor disorders experienced by your parents. In addition, further examinations, such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs may also be performed by doctors.
In the meantime, don't panic yet. Also calm your parents and help him in activities. Give your parents the understanding not to force themselves to do activities that are burdensome. Avoid leaving the affected hand alone for too long. Encourage your parents to follow a healthy diet, rich in antioxidants. Stay away from cigarettes and alcohol.
Hope it helps ..
