Tomato sauce and other processed tomato products such as tomato puree, tomato soup can actually reduce the risk of cancer. Processed tomato products contain higher levels of lycopene (a substance that gives tomatoes their red color) and are more easily absorbed than fresh tomatoes. This lycopene which has protective properties against cancer. Research was conducted on several types of cancer, but processed tomato products can significantly reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Some other cancers that reduce the risk of consuming lycopene in processed tomato products are pancreatic cancer and colon cancer. Meanwhile, the risk of breast cancer, esophageal cancer, oral cancer, pharyngeal cancer, skin cancer and ovarian cancer did not decrease with the consumption of lycopene in processed tomato products.
