Treatment Of Scabies In Pregnant Women?
hello, I’m a 4 months pregnant woman aged 27 years. It has been months since I had scabies which is transmitted from family members. I used scabimite cream to treat it and it was quite successful, is scabimite cream safe for pregnant women? or is there another therapy that is safer?
Hello Anike Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
The cream medicine that you mean is a drug applied to the skin that contains the active ingredient Permethrin which is used to cure scabies. Scabies or often called scabies itself is a skin infection caused by parasites, namely mites
Based on the FDA (Food Drugs Administration) or food and drug regulatory agencies, the use of Permethrin in pregnant women is included in group B which means that it is not at risk in some studies.
In several studies the use of Permethrin in pregnancy does not cause side effects on your future baby, so Permethrine is used as the cream of choice for treating parasitic infections such as mites or scabies in pregnant women.
Although in some studies the drug is said to be safe for pregnancy, there are some side effects that may arise such as allergies, irritation, burning and redness. Therefore, before using permethrine cream, always consult the use of the cream to a dermatologist and obstetrician, so that doctors can directly examine your skin condition and see the advantages and disadvantages of using the cream in your pregnancy.
Apart from using permethrine cream, there are a number of things that you should pay attention to and do at home:
The use of permethrine is as recommended by a doctor, the use of permethrine is usually recommended on the first day of 8-12 hours and is applied all over the body except for the area above the neck, then the treatment is repeated one week later in the same way.
Every member of the family is also treated to prevent transmission
Wash clothes, bed linen, towels, and used fabrics in hot water and dry in the sun
I hope this helps,
Thank you, Regards
