Ultrasound At 36 Weeks Gestation?
Afternoon doctor My wife is 36 weeks pregnant, on ultrasound the results of lung maturation are not yet perfect so they are referred to be given lung maturation therapy to the fetus, and given Steriod inj (Dexamerhasone) is this type of steroid used for the process of lung maturation in the fetus? Thank you
Good evening, thanks for the question
Corticosteroids dexamethasone and betamethasone are widely used therapies for the treatment of lung maturation in pregnancies at high risk for preterm labor. Both are given by injection with a total dose of 24 mg in divided doses to induce fetal lung maturation in the womb.
Premature labor will be very risky for the baby to be born. Complications in babies born prematurely include respiratory disturbances due to mature pulmonary organs being formed, breastfeeding disorders, disorders of body temperature regulation, as well as the risk of infection. The risk of respiratory disorders can be significantly reduced by administering corticosteroids, so that it is widely used as a therapeutic protocol in high-risk pregnancies.
That's all, hope you can help.
