Pregnant women need nutrition, including vitamins and minerals, which are enough to help the growth and development of the fetus in the womb. Basically, vitamins, minerals, and other nutritional intake can be obtained from daily food consumption. However, even so, there is the potential for pregnant women to lack nutrition so they must take vitamin and mineral supplements. Some of the most important vitamins and minerals for pregnant women are:

folic acid, to prevent defects in the baby's nervous system
vitamin D and calcium, to help the growth of fetal bones
iron, to help the formation of red blood cells and help the growth of the fetus

In addition to the above vitamins and minerals, pregnant women also require intake of vitamin B6, vitamin C, zinc, and copper.
