Hi Dave,
Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
Vomiting in infants can be observed from the discharge of quite a lot of fluid with strong bursts. Vomiting that occurs after breastfeeding has many possible causes, including:
Excessive entry of gas into the digestive tract, for example due to the baby suckling using a pacifier, breastfeeding while crying, breastfeeding while lying down, not burping after feeding Intolerance, such as due to excess lactose content in formula milk Malabsorption, such as due to consuming foods or drinks with artificial sweeteners Crohn's disease ( chronic inflammation of the intestines) GERD (reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus) Gastroenteritis (infection of the digestive tract) Pyloric stenosis (the muscle ring between the stomach and intestines is too thick) Head or neck injuries Viral or other bacterial infections, etc. If vomiting occurs very often (more than 3 times a day) and always repeats for more than 1 week, you should check your child directly to the doctor. The concern is that if the cause is not evaluated, specific treatment cannot be given, and the baby is prone to dehydration due to excessive fluid loss during vomiting. Infant growth can be disrupted due to inadequate nutritional intake.
For now, try the following tips:
Improve the way you breastfeed your baby, namely: Avoid giving formula milk before the baby is 1 year old Avoid using a pacifier, as much as possible feed the baby directly from your breast. Elevate the head and chest a little. Every time after feeding, burp the baby. Avoid placing objects or food carelessly within the reach of the baby. Diligently wash baby's hands. Hope this helps..
