Waking Up At Night?
Good morning. I have experienced a situation, not just once (happened once a month, but not regularly, in the last year), where I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night after sleeping well. When I woke up, I felt anxious, suddenly in a rush, but I didn’t know what I was worried about. I didn’t even dare to go back to sleep because there was a fear of death. Short of breath, hot stomach and nausea. These situations occur at different intervals, mostly within one hour. I once consulted a doctor at my campus, he answered that it was normal and maybe I was stressed because of college loads. Opinion please. thanks.
Hi Amandaintanv, Thank you for the question.
Have you experienced the same thing during the day? Your complaint is likely a panic attack. Panic attacks can occur at any time of the day or at night. Panic attacks can occur suddenly at night and wake the sufferer. Usually panic attacks at night are not caused by an obvious trigger. Symptoms that can appear include palpitations, shortness of breath, trembling, sweating, rapid breathing, chills, and anxiety about death. The duration of symptoms varies widely. The cause of panic attacks is not known with certainty but is thought to be related to hereditary factors, stress levels, sleep disturbances, thyroid hormone disorders, or changes in the work of the brain.
If this bothers you do not hesitate to consult a psychiatrist / psychiatrist. Doctors need to ask some questions to find the cause of this panic attack. Treatment that can be given by doctors can be in the form of psychological therapy or drugs. Please also try to manage stress well, do things that please you like your hobby. Do relaxation breathing techniques before bed.
Hope this information is helpful.
