What Causes Hair Changes From Curly Curls To Be Straight?
Hello, good evening,. I am 17 years old want to ask. When I was small (± until the age of 5thn) my hair was curly curly, my brother called it similar to a spring, which if pulled would return curls as before. But because I have been infected with lice several times, my hair is often cut short. Is this the cause? Or because the hair is often combed? FYI, my mother has curly wavy hair and now my hair is just a child’s curly hair. Thank you, if you are willing to answer 🙂
Hello Dheasyahira, thank you for asking.
Hair type changes do sometimes occur, yes. But of course not everyone experiences it. Most people will still have one type of hair all their lives. Hair type, as well as hair color, is determined by one's genes. This gene is a combination of genetic material from father and mother. People with straight hair genes will have round hair follicles. People with curly or curly hair will have flattened hair follicles.
Straight haired people, have the dominant straight hair gene. Likewise with curly and curly haired people, curly genes will be more dominant. But in some people, there are conditions where there are straight hair genes and curly hair genes that are equally dominant (codominant). At one time, due to a trigger, one gene can be activated more than other genes. Resulting in a change in hair type. For example, as a child, the curly hair gene is more dominant, but towards adulthood, the straight hair gene becomes dominant. This is new in the form of theory and still requires further research. Some things that might trigger changes in the activation of hair type genes, are thyroid hormones, reproductive hormones, and chemical treatment of hair. As long as you have no complaints, then you don't need to worry about your hair type.
That's the explanation that I can share. May be useful.
