What Is The Treatment For Fluid Buildup In A Child’s Brain?
My 9 year old son has an arachoid cyst on his head about 3.3 cm, is there a cure?
Hi Mr Abid,
Arachoid cyst is a condition where there is a fluid-filled sac in the brain that causes an increase in intracranial pressure in the brain so that there are symptoms such as severe headaches, vomiting, impaired concentration, impaired vision and seizures. There are no medically proven tablets that can be given. However, the treatment that can be carried out is medically proven in the form of surgery by a neurosurgeon specialist, such as: Permanent drainage system, namely the installation of a shunt to drain cyst fluid so that brain pressure decreases. Fenestration is a surgical technique that opens the head towards the brain and then opens the cyst to drain fluid directly, this technique is more complex or difficult. Endoscopic cyst fenestration is the latest surgical technique with minimal side effects because there is no need to open a head surgery, where the neurosurgeon uses an endoscope to open the cyst and drain fluid to reduce brain pressure. Even with this technique the patient can recover quickly and if the response is good can go home 1-2 days of treatment.
Consult with a neurosurgeon specialist. If a cyst is found but does not cause symptoms, then surgery is not performed while monitoring changes in the patient's symptoms. Hope it is useful
