Good afternoon, I abdul 25th. Recently I was wheezing accompanied by repeated coughs but not short of breath. whether it is caused by allergies, because from the information I read on the internet it’s due to allergies. Please enlighten me. Thank you.
Hello! Thank you for asking at HealthReplies.com.
Wheezing is a whistling sound when you breathe that occurs due to narrowing of the airways. This narrowing can occur because the muscles around the airway contract, airway swelling, there is a lot of mucus in the airway, the entry of foreign objects in the airway, or there is an abnormal growth in the airway (tumor). These conditions can be caused by various diseases.
Mild wheezing can occur when there is a viral infection of the airways. Viral infection of the respiratory tract is the most common cause of cough in patients. Viral infections can go away on their own, but if you are accompanied by wheezing, it is best if you see a doctor so that it can be treated properly. If the wheezing occurs repeatedly, you may have asthma. Mild asthma attacks are not always accompanied by tightness. Apart from asthma, you may also have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This disease is caused by inflammation of the airways that runs for a long time which causes the airways to shrink. The main cause of COPD is smoking.
Bronchiectasis or dilation of the airways along with large amounts of mucus can also cause wheezing. Apart from coughing and wheezing, the characteristic symptom of bronchiectasis is a large amount of phlegm that will form 3 layers when collected. Foreign objects that enter and block the airways can cause wheezing because the flow of air in and out is not smooth. Coughing can also occur in the body's attempt to remove the foreign object.
Allergies very rarely cause wheezing without tightness. Patients with allergies who experience shortness of breath to wheeze can die quickly. We recommend that you see a doctor for an immediate examination. The doctor will determine roughly what causes the disorder you are experiencing. The doctor will also provide the appropriate treatment for your condition. If you experience tightness, chest pain, or coughing up blood, come to the nearest hospital emergency room for immediate treatment.
So much information from me. I hope this helps.
