When He Widened One Big Eye?
I want to ask the doctor, my child is 6 years old, if I notice when he opens his mouth while eating, his right eye is enlarged, different from his left eye which looks normal, if he closes his mouth and chews his eyes it returns to normal. Likewise when he sucks, at the time he sucks his eyes like a one-sided goggle, why is that doctor? thank you for your answer
Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
A child's eye that looks lopsided can be a symptom of ptosis. This condition occurs when one of the eyelids is unable to open properly, causing the other eyelid to appear more enlarged. In general, ptosis can be caused by 2 factors, namely:
Congenital, which is the result of not developing the levator muscle which regulates the opening of the eyelid. Acquired, namely due to side effects after eye surgery, improper use of contact lenses, muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, etc. Not only does the eyelid look big one side, ptosis can also causes the child to look drowsy and the eyes become tired easily, resulting in frequent headaches, difficulty concentrating, and decreased academic achievement in children.
It could also be that the size of one of your child's eyes is due to other factors, such as variations in the shape of the eyes or eyelids from birth, blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids), stye (hordelum, inflammation of the eyelid glands), insect bites on the eyelids, thyroid ophthalmopathy ( thyroid gland disorders that cause eye disorders), benign or malignant tumors, kalazion, inflammation of the skin of the eyelids due to other causes, and so on.
How long have you been observing these symptoms? Are there any other complaints that have arisen?
If the complaint has been around for a long time, looks very conspicuous, and causes your child to experience other complaints as mentioned above, you should immediately consult a doctor or eye specialist. With an objective examination, doctors can certainly identify whether the condition they are experiencing is still relatively mild and normal, or if they need special medical treatment. If it is true that the condition includes ptosis, then surgery can be done to improve the condition of the eye.
Hope it helps ..
