When Is The Tetanus Injection In Pregnant Women?
Good afternoon, I fika 27 years, I still want to ask about the injection of TT, I got married in September 2018 and now I am 5 months pregnant, I injected TT when I was married … so do I now have to get an injection again?
Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
TT (tetanus toxoid) immunization is given as protection from women and fetuses in the womb (if given during pregnancy) against the bacterial infection Clostridium tetani, which is often called tetanus. This disease certainly can not be underestimated, because it can cause sufferers to experience overall muscle stiffness, even to the point of involving respiratory muscles and potentially deadly. Mothers giving birth and newborns later are one of the age groups that are susceptible to tetanus, mainly due to poor care of birth scar and umbilical cord scarring. Therefore, immunization is very important.
TT immunization during pregnancy can be done at any time. Considering you have already received 1 TT immunization, then during pregnancy you can get back the second TT immunization. There is no specific advice when is the best time to undergo a second TT injection. But it is recommended, the second TT immunization is done at least 4 weeks after the first TT immunization. Furthermore, to perfect immunity, you can get TT immunization 3 more times, i.e. with the following timeline:
TT 3 immunization is given at least 6 months after TT 2 immunization TT 4 immunization is given at least 1 year after TT 3 immunization TT 5 immunization is given at least 1 year after TT 4 immunization. For more details, please consult with your doctor or obstetrician, right?
I hope this helps.
